Race into MOVE for school holidays

A RACING LEGEND… One of the standout attractions at MOVE is this iconic 1967 Ford Mustang GTA, one of Australia's most successful touring cars. Driven by Ian 'Pete' Geoghegan, it claimed an incredible 89 race wins from 144 starts and helped secure three Australian Touring Car Championships, cementing its place in Australian motorsport history. HOME to one of regional Victoria’s largest collections of historic vehicles, the Museum of Vehicle Evolution (MOVE) has plenty to keep kids, and big kids alike, entertained during these winter school holidays.

From classic cars, motorbikes, trucks and buses to bicycles, costumes and interactive exhibits, there’s something around every corner. The museum has also recently expanded with the completion of its new pavilion, creating even more exhibition space and allowing visitors to explore an impressive collection of historic buses and vehicles as part of a seamless journey through the museum.

A standout attraction is the War on Wheels exhibition, which explores the important role bicycles played in conflicts around the world. Among the fascinating displays is a folding military bicycle, accompanied by historic photographs showing how soldiers carried the compact bikes while parachuting into war zones during World War II.

Motorsport fans won’t want to miss the Oscar Piastri display. Celebrating the Formula One star’s family ties to Shepparton through his grandfather, Hugh Macfadyen, a longtime MOVE volunteer, the exhibition features Piastri’s original go-kart, race-winning trophies, Formula One memorabilia and even the racing simulator from his childhood bedroom where his motorsport journey began.

Younger visitors can jump behind the wheel in MOVE’s dedicated children’s area, featuring racing video games, a truck driving simulator, a historic fire truck and Kenworth truck to climb aboard, plus plenty of toy cars for imaginative play.

While visiting, don’t miss the Loel Thomson Costume Collection, which offers a fascinating glimpse into Australian history through fashion. Highlights include colourful 1970s styles, school attire from the 1850s to 1900s, a century of wedding fashion and much more.

As an added bonus, MOVE ticket holders receive 10 per cent off admission to Shepparton Art Museum’s Facing Modernity: Degas to Picasso exhibition, running until September 20, 2026.

Admission is $20 for adults, $12 for children aged five to 16, and $50 for a family pass (two adults and up to four children).
