Shepparton to host Commonwealth Games sports

BMX racing as well as men and women’s time trials for the road race in the 2026 Commonwealth Games will be hosted in Shepparton.

After launching the ambitious regional Victorian Games concept five years ago, the announcement came as a much anticipated and welcomed reveal made by the members of the Commonwealth Games Committee on Wednesday, October 5 at the Shepparton Art Museum.

With the full Sport Program encompassing 20 sports and 26 disciplines, including nine fully integrated Para sports being unveiled by the Commonwealth Games Federation, the Victorian Government and Commonwealth Games Australia, the full program of event locations will be announced in coming weeks.

Bringing more than 100 athletes competing alongside hundreds of support staff, coaches and event organisers, the hugely popular BMX racing competition will also draw thousands of spectators from across Australia and from around the world.

To match the fever and magnitude of hosting the Commonwealth Games events, Shepparton will also showcase a major festival that will tap into the region’s vibrant cultural scene, making the most of live theatre, craft and galleries- including the world-class Shepparton Art Museum.

Attending the thrilling announcement made at SAM on Wednesday, Greater Shepparton City Council mayor, Cr Shane Sali said,

“This is a massive achievement which will greatly benefit not only the state but our local community. The economic stimulus this will provide for our community will significantly strengthen our visitor economy industries providing services for accommodation, hospitality and retail as we welcome an influx of visitors to the region for the Games.”
