WHILE not designed to mark the winter solstice, thousands of visitors will embark on a Shepparton adventure on the shortest day of the year, when White Night lights up the cultural destination for the first time on Saturday, June 25.

Enriched with a celebration of art and culture to showcase Shepparton’s history, White Night will transform the regional city through 28 large-scale illuminations, projections, live music and interactive works from talented local, national and international artists.

This one-night-only all ages event will feature experiences that pay respect to the past and present with works by local Yorta Yorta artists and First Nations designers from across the state with works based on connection to land, water and country.

Local artists featured include Mimi Leung, Aunty Frances Nicholson, Tori Day, Tahnee Day and Dylan Charles, whose light installations, visual art projections and designs will be seen across Shepparton’s cultural spaces.

Original White Night designer, Michael Blazy (Paris), returns with his cascading soap bubble sculpture, Bouquet Final, shown at the first event in Melbourne in 2013.

Renowned Melbourne-based artist Bruce Armstrong brings his towering sculptural inflatable work to Shepparton in the shape of a friendly bear, which will delight the young and young at heart.

To entertain the masses, Ausecuma Beats, Juno Mamba and Quivers will bring beats, bass and boom to the Shepparton Skate Park, in a vibrant live music program by OK Motels founder Kate Berry, which will also feature a community skate off and visual projections by Rachel Doller.

Shepparton will see up to 40,000 people attend the city over the last weekend in June for White Night, which is expected to deliver a huge boost to the local economy as well as celebrating the diverse and cultural regional community.

White Night Shepparton takes place on Saturday, June 25 June from 6pm to 12 midnight. Entry is free and works can be viewed at various locations across Shepparton. See whitenight.com.au/shepparton for further information.
