NEW pedestrian crossing lights on Hawdon Street at Greater Shepparton Secondary College have been activated. Drivers are reminded to take care when driving on Hawdon Street and to obey traffic signals.
The lights have been installed in response to a surge in pedestrian activity in the area due to the large number of students attending Greater Shepparton Secondary College.
Greater Shepparton City Council’s director infrastructure, Gary Randhawa said the addition of the lights is important to improve safety for pedestrians.
“With an increased number of pedestrians in the area, it is important to have these lights operational,” he said.
During school hours, the speed limit in the area is 40km/hr. A crossing supervisor will continue to work at the crossing to ensure the safety of pedestrians while motorists adjust to the changed conditions.
