Councillors, community members and their loved ones gathered last Thursday to congratulate Cheryl Phillips for her wonderful book Heart and Soul of the South Shepparton Community Centre: Stories of Inspirational Women, an anthology of regular attendee’s varying recollections of how they came to be visitors to the centre.

Tales of arriving in Australia, raising children, navigating a lifetime of relationships, hardships and life’s triumphs of the women who contributed to the rich tapestry of the publication is reflective of the community centre’s very essence, the people who make it the incredible place it is.

President of South Shepparton Community Centre Mheganne Lumsden spoke of how the relocation was a significant moment in the group’s history.

“Thank you to everyone who made this move possible. Over the past 37 years, we have had some people at our doorstep who were so broken, so in need of support. It has been beautiful to watch them grow and flourish thanks to having a space that allowed them to do so,” Ms Lumsden said.

South Shepparton Community Centre is now located at 290-300 Archer St, Shepparton. Drop in to purchase a copy of the book. If you’d like to get in touch with the centre, phone 5821 6172 or email administrator@southcom.org.au.
