Who makes the nation’s best pie and sausage roll?
THE GREAT Aussie Pie & Sausage Roll Competition begins in Sydney today. Three bakeries are representing the Goulburn Valley in the competition this year: Tatura Hot Bread, Tatura Bakery & Lunches, and North End Bakehouse in Shepparton.
The 32nd annual competition brings together bakers from around the nation to compete for the honour of making the best pies and sausage rolls in the country, and it is exactly the type of event we need this year.
Since its inception more than three decades ago, the competition has brought the baking industry closer and has seen winners experience unprecedented demands, while bringing tourists to regional areas to get a slice of the country life, and a slice of exceptional country baking.
It is safe to say that this is a competition of excitement and prestige for anyone who is interested in pies and sausage rolls.
Olivia Wells is bringing her special Mexican pie to Sydney on behalf of Tatura Hot Bread, and she is a fan favourite after taking home second prize in Sydney in 2020 and the title of Victoria’s top gourmet pie at competitions in Shepparton this year.
Tatura Hot Bread is competing in the red meat pie and plain sausage roll categories; Tatura Bakery & Lunches are competing in the plain mince, plain chunky red meat, poultry, vegetarian pie and plain sausage and gourmet sausage roll categories; and North End Bakehouse are competing in the plain mince, red meat and vegetarian pie and plain sausage roll categories.
