LEARNING new skills, making memories and getting out of your comfort zone is what travelling is all about.
Shepparton ACE Secondary College is committed to providing life enriching experiences. Over the Term 2 holidays, teachers Frank Adams, Michelle Donders, and assistant principal Rosie Hocking volunteered to take students to Northern Territory. On their trip they saw geological features including Uluru and had the opportunity to connect with country by participating in Indigenous workshops.

“For most of the students this was their first time on a plane,” recalled Rosie. “There were a lot of new experiences, like going through customs, putting up a tent – the kids even tried meals they had never had before,” said Rosie.
In June, ACE College’s Year 12’s went to Cairns where they experienced wonders like the Daintree Rainforest and learned about environmental damage to the coast and Great Barrier Reef.
“Students have had two years in their early teenage life without anything good happening at all, only fear and screen time, which we know isn’t good,” said school principal Bronwyn Rose.

“The camping programs are intended to reconnect people with themselves and the broader world, rather than their bedrooms.”
10 students will represent the college on an international trip to Cambodia and Vietnam next month. All these experiences have been covered by the school, with teachers assisting in securing passports and other documents.
“I want to say how much I appreciate the staff who volunteer go on these school camps. It just couldn’t happen without them giving a lot of their time and our whole school community appreciates it enormously,” said principal Rose.
Shepparton ACE Secondary College aims to provide a small school environment which is safe, supportive and caters for individual needs. To book a tour, please phone 5831 4029.
