YORTA YORTA elder Aunty Pam Pederson OAM who has won the National Senior Elder Sportsperson award at the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sports Awards 2023 held at the MCG recently.

The event, which was hosted by Yankunytjatjara and Wirangu woman and presenter Shelley Ware, included a welcome from Uncle Colin Hunter, a performance by Kutcha Edwards and an address by AFL legend Eddie Betts. It was a celebration that saw of some of the nation’s best First Nations athletes recognised for their achievements.

Aunty Pam is 80 years old and has entered numerous marathons. Aunty Pam is currently training for the Royal Children’s Hospital 14-kilometre run in early 2024.

At the age of 50, Aunty Pam started looking after her health. She began her fitness journey by walking daily to improve her health and hoping that she would be a role model to others. She has inspired many others, significantly improving the health of many in the community and continues to be an inspiration to many. Congratulations, Aunty Pam.
