BIG names including Yothu Yindi, Archie Roach, Briggs, Electric Fields and more rocked Shepparton for Treaty election on Saturday.
Held at Rumbalara Football Netball Club, with thanks to the many volunteers who helped make Treaty Day Out a success, it was a day written into the history books of Yorta Yorta Woka according to the club.
The outstanding musical line-up of First Nations talent performed in a bid to raise awareness and support for the journey towards Treaty in Victoria.
The community event was held by the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria to coincide with a by-election in which Aboriginal people in the state’s north-east will choose who will represent them in the Treaty process.
Head of Engagement, First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria, Amy Rust reflected on how the day went.
“It was a huge success. Aboriginal people came out to enrol to have their voices heard on the journey to Treaty, our allies came out to show support and we all got to enjoy a hell of a show together,” said Amy.
“Treaty Day Out gave a boost to the local economy and supported musicians and crew who have had a hard stretch during Covid. But ultimately, this event was about bringing us all together to share and celebrate our culture. Much like Treaty itself.”
