PETER William Dunbabin, known affectionately to many as Peter D, will be remembered as a warm, generous person whose life was devoted to community, conversation and service.
Born in Swanston, Tasmania, Peter grew up on a rural farm before moving to Hobart, where he attended New Town Boys High School. His love of radio began early with 7HT in Hobart, later presenting on 7SD in Scottsdale. He also worked in bookshops, where his easy manner and genuine interest in people shone through.

After moving to mainland Australia, Peter worked as a taxi driver in Wagga Wagga before moving to Rochester where he is purchased his own taxi service, earning the Rural Taxi Driver of the Year honours in 1997. In Shepparton, he later worked at The Adviser as a sales representative, and later proudly purchasing Focus Cards and Gifts in the Maude Street Mall.
A beloved member of the One FM family for nearly a decade, known for his kindness, humour and tireless commitment, Peter – whether hosting breakfast, filling weekend shifts or presenting his much-loved Christmas Day programmes – gave his time freely and without need of recognition.
A generous and deeply community-minded gentleman, Peter touched countless lives. He will be remembered not just for his voice but for his exceptional character and contribution.
