AT the May Council meeting, Greater Shepparton City Council awarded the tender to replace pedestrian lighting around Victoria Park Lake.
The tender, awarded to local company, Byers Electrical, will see 64 new light poles installed adjacent to the walking path around the lake.
The upgrades will replace the lighting currently in place, which has come to the end of its asset life and needs to be renewed to improve pedestrian safety at dusk and dawn.
Works will commence in coming weeks with expected completion towards the end of July, weather permitting. Measures will be put in place to minimise the disruption to residents and visitors during this time.
Outgoing mayor, Councillor Kim O’Keeffe said Council were pleased to award this important contract to a local company.
“The installation of this new lighting will improve the already fantastic Victoria Park Lake precinct and ensure residents and visitors feel safe when visiting the area,” she said.
“We see people utilising the walking track during the early hours of the morning and evening each day and this lighting renewal will ensure these residents and visitors feel safe when doing so.
“Victoria Park Lake is an ideal location for many community events and activities and this upgraded lighting will allow for continued usage of the area for years to come.”
Power facility upgrades are also currently being undertaken at the Victoria Park Lake events area, which will further improve the amenities in the space for upcoming events.
