VOLUNTEERS play an indispensable and crucial role in our everyday life. They are the unsung heroes who dedicate their time and effort to make a difference. Many of our essential services, which we often take for granted, would simply not be available without the unwavering dedication of our volunteers.
Local superstar Kimberley Chu has been volunteering in the Goulburn Valley since her arrival in 2021. After two years, the difference Kim has made to our community is monumental.
With a range of volunteer experience including the Rotary Satellite Club, Greater Shepparton Youth Committee, and the Implementation Advisory Committee for RiverConnect, Kim also helped with programs such as Clean Up Australia Day, Christmas For Those Alone, and many more.
“Volunteers are the backbone of our community, making it a better place for all,” said Kim.

“To me, volunteering has been an eye-opening experience that has deepened my understanding of what’s happening in our community. Through volunteering, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges and needs of others, which has inspired me to take action and contribute to positive change.”
After years of hard work, Kim is finally being recognised for all the good she has done for the community.
The Greater Shepparton Volunteer Recognition Awards bestowed Kim with the 2023 Youth Volunteer Award.
“This award holds immense personal and professional significance for me. I’m incredibly grateful to have been nominated by the leaders I deeply admire and look up to. Their recognition reinforces the value of my contributions and inspires me to continue striving for excellence in my volunteer work,” said Kim.
Speaking to the award, Kim says the recognition serves as a reminder of the transformative power of volunteering and strengthens her commitment to service.
“Volunteering has not only broadened my perspective but also empowered me to explore my capacity to help and create a better community for all.”
