Water trading rules to remain unchanged

In response to community feedback and acknowledging the impacts of Coronavirus, the Victorian Government is delaying implementation of new inter-valley trade rules until the start of the 2021-22 irrigation season.

Goulburn Murray Water (GMW) general manager, water delivery services, Warren Blyth said, “For irrigators on the Murray and Goulburn systems, this meant inter-valley trade rules that were implemented in December 2019 to ensure a level playing field for irrigators will be maintained throughout 2020-21.

In 2019, GMW wrote to customers with tagged allocation accounts to advise that Goulburn to Murray allocation trade and use from Goulburn tagged allocation accounts would both be managed under the inter-valley trade rule.

Customers can continue to set-up tagged allocation accounts under the extended interim rules. Some exemptions to the trade limits apply for a small number of customers. GMW is contacting these customers with more information for their unique circumstance.

For information on trade limits, details of the volumes in inter-valley accounts and opportunities available visit the Water Register website www.waterregister.vic.gov.au.
