THIS year’s theme for international nurses and midwives day reflects the diversity of care and services provided by nurses and midwives across the community. The theme ‘A voice to lead – health for all’ epitomises the largest healthcare profession’s mantra of wanting to make a difference.

Nurses and midwives are highly skilled, providing care to the community from birth to death often when people and their families are at their most vulnerable.  There is a privilege that comes from being a nurse or midwife bringing with it a responsibility to provide excellent care.

The range of fields GV Health nurses and midwives work in is testament to the value that nurses bring to the broader healthcare system. A commitment and expectation to lifelong learning provides opportunities for nurses and midwives to work and give back to the community in a huge range of areas.

GV Health is working with our local education partners and those broader afield to give a greater number of people the opportunity to join the nursing and midwifery workforce. The GV Health redevelopment will see the need for at least 150 more nurses and midwives and we are keen to attract both local people into nursing and midwifery and demonstrate to those who are not currently local to come and join us.

I would like to thank all the nurses and midwives working at GV Health and recognise the amazing work they do. The nurses and midwives are not only providing the care to our community, they and their families are part of the community, and this is reflected in the values in which GV Health nurses and midwives operate.
