A trivia and auction night in support of Lancaster’s 2012 London Paralympic Games hopeful, Darren Nicholson will be held in Tatura this weekend.
Darren hopes to shoot for gold after taking up airgun shooting in 2002, less than a year after his right leg was amputated as the result of a car accident.
Now averaging a score of 598/600 bull’s eyes, Darren hopes to compete in the 10m air prone and 50m 22 prone events next year.
His number one supporters, parents, Linda and Brian are confident he will make it.
“We organised this fundraiser to keep him going because travelling to compete in the qualifying events is very expensive,” Linda said.
“If he does well enough at the Paralympics then he will have the full support of the IPC (International Paralympic Committee) and they will provide him will full sponsorship.”
Darren is now at a qualifying event in Brisbane and will head to London and Sydney later this year for final qualifying rounds.
The trivia and auction night will be held on Saturday at Victory Hall, Hogan Street, Tatura from 7 pm. For tickets ($15) or more details phone Linda: 0422 645 188, Norma: 0400 631 227 or Adriana: 0438 029 373.
