Bushrangers notch first win

THE Murray Bushrangers has recorded its first victory of the NAB League season with a win over the Western Jets at J.C. Lowe Oval, Yarrawonga.

In near perfect playing conditions, the Bushrangers kept the Jets scoreless going into the first break with Kate Adams, Olivia Barber, Emilee McPherson, Teagan Brett and Ally Morphett all firing from the first bounce.

The second quarter saw the Bushrangers increase their lead with Millie Brown and Mikaela Trethowan clearing the ball from the middle. Olivia Barber continued to take contested marks up forward, with Tali Verhoeven lending a helping hand. Chelsea Styan and Sophie Locke led by example laying relentless tackles giving the Bushrangers every opportunity to play their attacking brand of football.

The third quarter showcased the defensive pressure of Trethowan, Adams, Locke, Brett, Mindy Quade and Hayley Doohan, who were all rewarded for their efforts. Brett continued to break the lines and evade the Jets defence, hitting her teammates lace out with her elite foot skills.

Leading by 30 points going into the final term, the Bushrangers never gave up with Chelsea Styan and Sophie Locke again applying relentless pressure with their tackling prowess with Doohan and Trethowan continuing to work hard in defence.

The Murray Bushrangers (6.7 43) were too good for the Western Jets (5.1 37). The Murray Bushrangers travel to RAMS Arena, Craigieburn to play their round three match on Sunday, March 24 against Gippsland Power.
