THE GOULBURN Valley region is now recognised Australia-wide as producing top-class wines, with significant growth in the region becoming increasingly notable every year. Phillips Cellars are proud to boast a wide selection of 45 local wineries, which have 18 different locally grown white grape varieties and 22 different reds.

The Shiraz and Cabernet of the Goulburn Valley now stands up against any other winemaking region in Australia, including famous locations like Barossa Valley, Coonawarra and McLaren Vale wine regions. The classic varieties, such as Riesling and Chardonnay, are beginning to find success too – winning awards at major wine shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide.

With local vignerons confidently mastering the classics, many are now expanding to try their hand at some other varieties, including old world classic red wines like Boğazkere, Sangiovese, Gamay and whites like Viognier, Marsanne, Vermento, Roussanne.

Phillips Cellars owner, Paul Phillips said, “As a region, we are absolutely swimming in options for great wine with lots of wonderful, locally produced varieties in stock.

“We now have more established vines in the region and our local viticulturists have a better understanding of local conditions. Winemakers are now also able to utilise years of skills to produce better wines.”
