Each year, the Shepparton United Football and Netball Club’s Girls U18 team provide a great community service. Over the past two years, the team has spent an evening serving and dining with residents of one of the local aged care facilities and raising funds for the Breast Cancer Network and the local cancer treatment centre in Shepparton.

This year, the team set out to raise funds for Down Syndrome Victoria – a cause close to the heart of the club, as co-captain Kate Adams’ younger sister, Eliza, has Down Syndrome.

The team held their fundraiser lunch last week after their game against Shepparton Bears and managed $700, which has already been directly donated to Down Syndrome Victoria.

Club coach Dean Walton said, “We may have only been around for three years but we have ensured that each year we have given back to the community in some way.

“It is important that we are not just about playing football, we are about personal development as well. I could not be prouder of the girls and what they have achieved both on and off field.”
