‘Fix the Basin Plan’ rally expected to be largest in the region’s history

Regional communities across northern Victoria and southern New South Wales are preparing for what’s expected to be the biggest ever protest rally the region has ever seen.

Farming groups and effected communities have combined to organise a rally that will see record numbers converge in Tocumwal to protest what they believe is a failing Murray-Darling Basin Plan.

The ‘Fix the Basin Plan’ community rally will take place on the Tocumwal foreshore in the coming weeks, on a date that is to be finalised depending on the availability of keynote speakers.

Rally co-organiser, Darcy Hare said, “Politicians are not listening to the devastating negative impacts that the Basin Plan is having on the social, economic and environmental fabric of our communities, despite promises they would all be protected.”

Mr Hare said that the Minister for Water Resources, David Littleproud and the Minister for Environment, Sussan Ley, as well as numerous other government ministers, have been invited to the rally.

Fellow organiser, Jan Beer, echoed Mr Hare’s concerns, saying that our Federal Government is not hearing the negative effects of the Basin Plan and its impacts on rural communities.

“We can have an effective, workable plan that looks after the environment as well as our communities; but we can’t have it until Mr Littleproud admits there have been massive mistakes, and commits to fixing them.

“There are now only two choices: fix it, or Victoria and New South Wales must walk away from this disaster to protect their citizens and their rural communities.

“I’m calling on people across the Murray and Murrumbidgee Valleys in New South Wales, from the Goulburn Valley and northern Victoria, to join us in Tocumwal,” Mrs Beer said.

“Let’s send a clear message to Mr Littleproud and his government that ‘fix it’ is their only option.”

Once the date and location for the rally are finalised, The Adviser will be sure to let you know.
