Local’s scholarship to help her pursue dream

FORMER McGuire College student, Marwa Ahmed has been selected out of 200 applicants as a 2019 Youthrive Victoria Scholar.

The scholarship will support Marwa in her dream to become a health professional in the local community.

The Youthrive Victoria scholarship includes financial support of $30,000 over three years, plus mentoring and leadership development, and was awarded to Marwa for her outstanding leadership capacity and commitment to Victorian regional communities.

As a Shepparton school student, Marwa experienced firsthand the support that rural communities can provide. She has gained confidence in public speaking with the Greater Shepparton Youth Leadership Program ‘Future Voices,’ and has been involved in Word and Mouth, Relay for Life, the Police Youth Committee and more. Marwa has worked with various local organisations to plan and run fundraising events, while also being an advocate for young people to live active, healthy lives. Marwa was also a passionate leader and McGuire College Captain, excelling in her studies and contributing to various sporting teams.

After graduating from Biomedicine at La Trobe University Bundoora, Marwa plans to return to her local community knowing that there is a shortage of rural health professionals.

Youthrive Victoria CEO, Dr Maryann Brown said, “The Youthrive Victoria Rural Scholarship program sees applications from many inspiring young Victorians who are dedicated and passionate about their local communities.

“It is a great pleasure to support our scholarship recipients’ post-school dreams, knowing that this scholarship will help to reduce financial strain while also supporting recipients to become contributors and leaders in their rural communities.”
