FROM very humble beginnings, Harmony Village originated with the notion of an idea during a women’s discussion group. The group identified the necessity for increased services in aged care, especially in the prominent ethnic population existing in the Goulburn Valley region.
Soon after, the Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District Hostel Charter Committee commenced the colossal task of planning, fundraising and securing a site for the establishment of a facility catering to the needs of the community.
Harmony Village Independent Living Unit resident, Mary Mehmet was a key player in ensuring that this vision was carried out from start to end and Harmony Village has now been a part of her life now for over 20 years. Mary has spent almost all of her retirement years as an actively involved member, calling Harmony Village home.
Mary has lived in her Independent Living Unit from the get-go, purchasing at the Stage 1 plan of development. Ever since that day, Harmony Village has grown remarkably, now accommodating residents across 80 Independent Living Units as well as the soon-to-be 85-bed Aged Care Facility upon completion of the expansion of the site.
Mary has loved every part of day-to-day life at Harmony Village and said, “It’s a wonderful and supportive community; everything you really need is conveniently located at short walking distance away at the local shopping centre.”
