We all have some special need, for Andrew Wheaten, his was to get a job as a landscape gardener.

Armed with ten years experience at Billabong Gardens, initially in the plant propagation nursery and then moving into customer relations, setting himself new goals along the way, he had reached the point where he was ready to move on to his ultimate goal. Getting the Connect GV CEO Award for Most Achieved in Social Enterprise three years ago was the catalyst.

Andrew reached out to Triflora Landscaping and Garden Maintenance in Melbourne for a vacancy and has been appointed.

Next month he moves away from Billabong Gardens to independent living and working in Melbourne.

His manager at Billabong Gardens, Tracy Lamont is pleased. “We are very proud of Andrew. He set his goals and was able to meet them along the way and now he can go into open employment.”

Andrew is ready to go. “I’m a bit nervous but I have gained a lot of experience here and doing the landscaping on my father’s two acre property gave me some experience I needed.”

We wish Andrew all the best in the next phase of his life.
