We live in anxious times. With the escalation of the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, a national emergency, the imposition of isolation in our homes and the general concern people have for their own health, tempers and frustration are causing people to act out of character.

In the last couple of weeks there have been instances where GV Health staff who have been working around the clock have been verbally abused by members of the public both at work and out of work in relation to the perception they are exposing the community to COVID-19. That is just not the case.

The number of people attending GV Health for COVID-19 assessment in the Acute Respiratory

Clinic or the Emergency Department has reduced since 31 March 2020 to an average of just over 20 each day compared to more than 40 in the week prior.

GV Health chief executive, Matt Sharp said the number of people that have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Greater Shepparton and Strathbogie region has not changed in recent days, while there have been two additional people that have tested positive in the Moira region.

Mr Sharp also said there remains people in the community who have tested positive for COVID-19 who it is understood, are remaining in isolation.  Their care and treatment is being managed by GPs and where required, GV Health.

“GV Health is continuing to treat inpatients with either confirmed or suspected COVID-19 at Graham Street Shepparton,” Mr Sharp said.

“Two of GV Health’s organisational values are compassion and respect.

“Can I ask that all members of the community consider what these two words represent in every interaction with our staff both when they are at work and when they are not. In fact, please thank GV Health’s staff for the contribution they are making.” said Mr Sharp.
