LOCAL MEMBER FOR EUROA… Steph Ryan MP draws barrier 12 in the Melbourne Cup

In delivering some ceremony to the running of the Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday in November, the cup itself is being taken on a tour across Australia where 24 different towns will be given the chance to draw a barrier number in the running of the cup.

This year marks the 25th year since Euroa trainer, David Hayes won the cup with imported galloper Jeune, ridden by jockey, Wayne Harris in 1994 and the draw was held on the Hayes property, Lindsay Park at Creightons Creek.

Local member for Euroa, Steph Ryan MP was given to drawing a barrier from the barrel. With both barriers 1 and 24 still up for grabs, she had managed to have a tipple both ways, drawing barrier 12.

In the running of the cup, whichever town has drawn the barrier that holds the winning horse will receive $50,000 from the Victoria Racing Club towards a local community initiative.
