FERN Summer is running for a third term on the Greater Shepparton City Council.
Ms Summer, a registered nurse working in Mooroopna and mother of three, was first elected in 2012 and served as Deputy Mayor for two years.
“Since then, I have a proven track record for transparency and accountability. I’m not afraid to stand up to the organisation and question recommendations. For instance, I was the only sitting councillor opposed to the new Shepparton Art Museum,” she said.
Ms Summer helped establish Greater Shepparton’s first off-leash dog park and would like more rolled out at Dookie, Murchison, Katandra and Tatura.
Other priorities are fast-tracking hard rubbish collections/tip vouchers, retaining Spring Nats as a cultural event, establishing dirt-jump bike friendly zones and scrapping the Municipal Charge.
“Our rates must be reduced so they are in line with other regional benchmarks,” she said.
“Council is more than roads, rates and rubbish. We also have a responsibility to lobby State and Federal Governments for improved infrastructure, such as rail, as well as identify and address pockets of disadvantage in our community.”
