It is a sad fact of life that one in eight children is born with a heart problem. I am told by my mother that even I was born many years ago with a squeaky valve in my heart. There is no cure and four precious little lives are lost each week while eight babies are born in Australia each day with a heart condition.
For Katherine and Elliott Byrne of Shepparton however, that is something they know only too well having their son, Elijah passing away at the age of three months a matter of two years ago.
Katherine is a nurse at GV Vets in Shepparton where the team there have taken the issue very seriously and in keeping with Super Boss Day, a fundraiser for HeartKids organisation, all came to work attired in Superhero costume.
HeartKids funds lifesaving research into heart disease and provides information and advocacy to for the families affected by a child with a heart condition.
They also hold weekly get-togethers at the Royal Childrens Hospital.
Katherine and Elliott have a new baby boy, Theodore who is now three months old.
HeartKids is a non-profit organisation that survives on donations and can be reached on their website heartkids.org.au
