ON her 96th birthday on Wednesday, October 26, the ebullient and much loved Von Carter was brought to tears of joy and surprise when her friends and family orchestrated a surprise birthday party in her honour at the Senior Citizens Club.
With her daughter and her son-in law, Janice and John Agosta travelling up from Ocean Grove, the surprise celebrations were planned and organised by Von’s dear friend and long-time neighbour, Jenny Carter.
With cheerful banter, a light lunch and tea and coffee aplenty, Von was moved by the warmth and love shown by her nearest and dearest.

As the cake was cut and two huge nine and six balloons bobbled overhead, Von’s family and friends affectionately paid tribute to the vibrant nonagenarian who looked much younger than her years.
“Mum is always happy, easy-going and never forgets a thing,” Janice said with a smile before adding,
“The Senior Citizens Club and her gardening keep her very busy. She is always going out on excursions, and she has lots of friends. For the past 20 years Mum has been a member of the club and it has really been so good for her.”
Gripping her hand tightly before a warm embrace, Jenny said that she enjoyed gardening with her neighbour and friend, and it was a great pleasure to keep a look out for her, as much as it was a pleasure for Von to do the same.
