HAVING celebrated its first birthday in November, The Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) has enticed visitors from around the nation to the region, engaging local and international patrons alike in art, culture and conversation.
In 2023, the team at SAM are thrilled to announce a new calendar of exhibitions and programmes that are certain to excite and engage people of all ages and backgrounds, inspiring ideas, forging new connections and providing superb entertainment.
Following a summer of the highly acclaimed travelling exhibition from the National Gallery of Australia entitled Ceremony, a brand-new SAM collection exhibition, entitled, Dance Me to the End of Love, will be on offer, exploring the life cycle from birth to death.
Showcasing ephemeral works as well as including paintings and ceramics from SAM’s extensive collection, the exhibition will reprise the much-loved Sam Jink’s sculpture, Mother and Child.

As well as a new collection show for the Children’s Gallery this year, SAM will continue its commitment to supporting and engaging local creatives through its ever-evolving programmes and initiatives.
From February until November, SAM at Sunset will make its return on a monthly basis in 2023, promising to be bigger and better than ever. SAM at Sunset will run on the last Thursday of each month until 8pm.
With so much to enjoy at SAM this year, the museum and café are pleased to announce new opening hours, beginning January 1 to allow patrons more time to explore the museum beyond working hours and to give museum staff time to undertake minor maintenance and exhibition activities.
New SAM opening hours beginning January 2023, are as follows:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 4pm
Tuesday (closed, including café and function rooms)
Saturday and Sunday 10am to 5pm
The Café is open 6 days a week 10am to 4pm.
