IN March last year, Kyabram District Health Service began to offer a ‘Disability Liaison Officer’ program. They sent out expressions of interest to people with disabilities to join a group to organise their inaugural ‘International Day of People with Disability Celebration’.
Eight people came to the first meeting and enthusiastically organised their first ‘International Day Celebration’ for 2022. The event was held on Friday December 2, 2022 and was an enormous success, with over 200 people attending.
With the funds raised on the day, the group decided to donate half the money to flood relief for Rochester and the other half was used to fund this year’s celebration.

On Monday December 4, 2023 from 10:30am, join the group and community members for lots to see, do, and eat. There will be a games arena, African drumming under the tree and four 15-minute chair yoga sessions.
Free live music will also be available and with a gold coin donation you can take home some homemade Christmas and birthday cards or a potted plant. Funds raised will go towards 2024’s celebration.
There will be a sausage sizzle, gelato and coffee van, and make sure you go to the information stall to get a sunflower cookie. At this year’s event, they will also be launching the ‘Hidden Disability Sunflower’. There will be a low sensory area with a sunflower out the front for attendees in need of some quiet time.
Kyabram District Health Service is located at 86-96 Fenaughty St, Kyabram.
