Ho Ho Hum

THE spirit of Christmas means something different to everyone who loves celebrating the festivities this time of year. But in a shock, Shepparton-Mooroopna has claimed the title of third least festive city in Australia, according to a study conducted by Language and culture experts Preply.

The study by Preply examined over 1,000 Christmas-related keywords searched from October 2022 to December 2022 to determine each city’s inclination towards festive activities and holiday celebrations.

What does that mean to the people of Shepparton-Mooroopna at large, with so much cultural diversity in our community with a large Muslim and Sikh Community in the area are we less festive or simply broader in what we celebrate?

Preply analysed the search volumes of 1,000+ Christmas-related queries in Google against 50 of the largest Australian cities to rank them in terms of their total search interest per 100,000 people.

There is certainly no shortage of Christmas paraphernalia in the stores and decking houses, so what appears as a negative from the outside may be a sign of the inclusivity of our region.
