THE Shepparton Public Cemetery has completed a $1M upgrade of its mausoleum, along with other significant improvements including increasing the lawn cemetery area, leveling carparks and improving pathways, and relocating the office to the main house on site.
The four-stage mausoleum development began in February of last year, with the recent completion of construction creating 72 above-ground crypts as demand for alternative burial options continues to grow.

For those who wish to be laid to rest in a mausoleum, Cobram is the only other cemetery in the region with these facilities, otherwise families must travel to Melbourne or New South Wales.
Shepparton Cemetery trust chairperson Rick Brun thanked the community for their support, as well as the local trades who worked on the upgrades including Lau Monumental Masons from Tallygaroopna, Prestons Landscaping, as well as expressing gratitude to the voluntary trust for their time and work in organising the project.

“We’d love the community to come and take a stroll through the cemetery grounds and see the work that has been done here. The trust works hard to ensure the public cemetery is a presentable and safe place to walk and to remember loved ones,” said Mr Brun.
“We’re constantly developing the site and moving ahead to ensure it serves the needs of the community. If the public have ideas or suggestions for improving Shepparton Cemetery, we would like to hear from them.”
