A Mooroopna morning tea will honour a loved one while bringing together people affected by breast cancer for a few hours of connection and support.

Organised through Whispering Truths 7, the Pink Ribbon Morning Tea will be held at the Mooroopna Education & Activity Centre (MEAC) in support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s Pink Ribbon Breakfast initiative.

For organiser Santhiya, these gatherings carry personal significance, following the recent death of a loved one.

“I have attributed this event to my cousin Thashaini who passed away a couple of months ago,” Santhiya said.

The event follows a similar gathering Santhiya hosted at MEAC in 2024, where she saw the value of bringing community members together.

“I hosted a similar event in 2024 at MEAC and found that my fellow community members were really appreciative to have that space to connect and just have a conversation,” she said.

The morning tea will welcome current and former breast cancer patients and survivors, alongside their families, friends, carers and other community members who wish to attend.

Santhiya hopes that this gathering will offer people an opportunity to step away from their daily routines and spend time in a welcoming environment.

“I want people to feel like they can come to this event and have a cup of tea and a chat, just letting people know that there is a space for them is important,” she said.

She also believes more community-led events could help encourage conversations surrounding health and strengthen local support networks within this space.

“I think creating these community spaces for health within our community is really important and I do think there needs to be more events like this and bringing that awareness and support to our community,” she said.

“What matters most to me is that people who are affected by breast cancer can feel supported by this event, and if it makes them feel better for a couple of hours, I think that is the whole point”.

The Pink Ribbon Morning Tea will be held at MEAC on October 24 at 10 am, with entry free and no obligation to donate, all members of the community are welcome to come along and connect.
