Nationals Member for Shepparton Kim O’Keeffe has welcomed the announcement of a public bus transport review, describing it as a long-overdue step for Greater Shepparton and surrounding communities.
Ms O’Keeffe said she had advocated in Parliament for a review over the past four years alongside community members and stakeholders, arguing the region had been disadvantaged by inadequate bus services. She said the last review was conducted in 2009 and failed to reflect the area’s significant population growth, new housing developments and changing transport needs.
Ms O’Keeffe said some areas had limited or no public bus services and that improved transport connections were essential for residents, businesses and neighbouring towns. She said a comprehensive review was needed to ensure future services met the needs of the growing region.
