A new monthly walking group for dads and father figures is launching in Greater Shepparton, aiming to build connections, share parenting experiences and support men’s mental health.

Organiser Rowan Farren came up with the idea after becoming a dad six months ago and noticing the lack of opportunities for fathers to connect.

The first walk will meet in the courtyard behind SAM at 10am on Sunday, November 8, before participants gather for a coffee or tea and a chance to chat, share advice and support one another.

“We’re trying to set up a regular monthly walk for dads within Greater Shepparton, it’s just an opportunity for father figures, even grandads, to come together and build a bit more of a community and support,” Mr Farren said.

With around 30 people already expressing interest through the group’s Facebook page, the initiative hopes to create an ongoing space where dads can feel less isolated and know they are not alone in the challenges of parenthood.
