A man for the moment

PETER Hill has the bearing of a man in charge. Moving to Shepparton 35 years ago, reluctantly he would say, as a member of the Victoria Police, he was dismayed with the lack of lifestyle he had been used to in Melbourne, but with time, the place grew on him.

“I was young and used to a nightlife only to find Shepparton was all closed by midnight,” commented Peter. “But the people around me turned me around to see the place in a different light.”

“I left the police and I had been driving trucks for a few years, initially I started my own food business then moved on to managing Fruitworks for a couple of years before I took a position with Kreskas Brothers Transport in 1997 working in an operational role. I eventually became the CEO of the company and was with them 23 years.”

“In 2018, John Kreskas offered my services to help support Jim Andreadis in getting a trucking museum off the ground.”

“I joined the board and resigned as chairman this month to take on the new role.” This month, Peter resigned from Kreskas to take on the position of executive officer with MOVE.

“I had a health issue 8 years ago and it gave me pause to consider what I was doing with my life and recognise that family was the most important thing I have. I have always wanted to give back to the community and this seemed to be the perfect way to do that.”

A confirmed car buff and with 40 years driving trucks and being engaged in and managing in the trucking industry, he provides the perfect candidate to take MOVE into its next phase as the construction works are completed and the museum opens with more rooms to properly display all of the exhibits.

“One of the things that impressed me at the onset was the vision of the people in the transport industry here. They put their hand in their pocket and that got me motivated.

“Most of them started out as family businesses with one truck. Now, the Goulburn Valley has 25 percent of the transport vehicle registrations in the state.”

Besides ensuring the museum provides a world class venue for Shepparton, Peter is making time to do the things he loves doing, cooking, music and being with his family.
