THE name Soroptimist was coined from the Latin ‘soror’ meaning sister and ‘optima’ meaning best.

Soroptimists inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls by advocating for equity and equality, creating safe and healthy environments, increasing access to education and developing leadership and practical skills for a sustainable future.

Soroptimist International of Shepparton Inc have put their wonderful sewing and crafting skills to use and have created a beautiful range of handmade gifts they are selling within the GMCU branch on Fryers Street in a quaint Christmas stall which is running up until this Friday December 17.

On offer are lovely aprons, handmade Christmas stockings, notebooks and so much more.

The funds the Soroptimists raise are put back into our local community to achieve the international group’s main objectives including human rights, global peace, international goodwill, advancing women’s potential, integrity and democratic decision making, volunteering, diversity and friendship.

Just recently, Soroptimist International of Shepparton Inc donated $5000 to GV Hospice and on Monday generously handed over $2000 worth of Christmas hampers to The Orange Door Shepparton.

Make sure you head down to GMCU to do some Christmas shopping at the stall and support the many charities and organisations the funds raised go to, the branch is located at 95 Fryers Street, Shepparton.
