Achieving dreams in the regions

STUDENT at La Trobe University, Billie-Ann Dillon, is currently studying Social Work at the Shepparton Campus.

“I chose to study in Shepparton as it was important to me to not uproot my children’s lives and move them somewhere else away from family. I also prefer the close-knit community Shepparton has.”

Billie-Ann says that studying regionally and anticipating being employed in the region gives her a sense of giving back to the community that she says has supported and nurtured herself and her family for many years.

“I chose La Trobe because of my initial experience when I first enquired about the course that I was interested in. The support and encouragement from the very beginning gave me a glimpse into what my future studies would entail.”

“The best part about studying at a regional campus is the personal community we have here. La Trobe in Shepparton is a small campus, but all the staff and students you encounter throughout the day are always friendly and kind. It is this positive influence that makes regional an appealing option, I don’t feel lost in thousands of students.”

“I am still ironing out the finer details of my future ambitions, but I know I will receive the right support, encouragement and education through La Trobe that will make my goals achievable. I hope to take everything I have learnt and make a positive impact in people’s lives, regardless of the specific sector of social work.”
