IT’S amazing how far a student can come when in the hands of an exceptional teacher.
Looking at the stunning exhibition of photography launched in Noble Monks Café on Thursday, November 24, you may well be surprised to learn that the extraordinary images had been created by students with only a semester’s worth of tutelage.
Under the masterly guidance of former photography teacher, Kerry Short, ACE Secondary College students learnt how to do more than just manage a camera, they learnt how to recognise colour, shape, line and texture as well as learn the art of image manipulation through Photoshop.

Proud of his students, Kerry said, “Once the students recognised they could do amazing things they just sort of went ahead, it was really hard to stop them.
“Photography has provided these students with confidence and a skill they can walk away with,” Kerry said.
One of the youngest exhibiting photographers, year eight student Sienna Jade Sutcliffe said, “The photography has been a really great experience. It’s given me a new perspective on how to see things, especially when you can mix things up or detail it to the way you want it.”
Hailing from a family of photography devotees as well as being former students of Kerry himself, Thomas Miller said, “This semester has been brilliant because I’ve really come into photography, and I’ve found a style of art that really suits me personally.
“I’m going to be pursuing photography as a passion because I like to be able to tell a story and photography is one such way to tell a story,” Thomas said.
