THE Aboriginal Liaison Officers are an integral part of the health service at GV Health. They support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients by ensuring they receive culturally appropriate healthcare whilst also supporting staff by increasing their cultural knowledge.
This can be in the form of cultural, social and emotional wellbeing and advocacy support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and their families when attending the Emergency Department, during an inpatient stay or at an outpatient appointment by request.

Aboriginal Liaison Officers also assist patients in navigating hospital settings, understanding their treatment plans and helping staff and patients with discharge planning when requested.
Also included in the team is a Mental Health Aboriginal Liaison officer who provides cultural, emotional and social support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families when they use the mental health services.
To get in touch with the GV Health Aboriginal Liaison Officer team, visit the Minya Barmah room at GV Health on Graham Street, Shepparton, between 8:30am to 5pm on weekdays or contact them on (03) 5832 2322.
