Throughout January, The Adviser had been receiving calls about low levels of water, poor water flow and black water being spotted along the Goulburn River between Murchison and Mooroopna. So, The Adviser made the call to Goulburn-Murray Water to see if we could find out any more information and when some water may be released.

“The flows being released downstream of Goulburn Weir are meeting a standing order for environmental flows from the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (GBCMA). As well as meeting environmental targets, the flows are scaled to supply irrigation, domestic and stock use, and Shepparton’s water supplies,” said Goulburn Murray Water River Operations coordinator, Bob Knowles.

“The flow regime of between 700 and 1000ML/d will remain until we need to deliver Inter- Valley Trade (IVT) flows at higher rates. That demand will depend on conditions in the Murray system. We most likely won’t see an increase over 1000ML/d for the next week or two. In the longer term, the GBCMA is planning an autumn pulse in March,” Mr Knowles added.
