Coming out of the dark passage that was 2020, Greater Shepparton City Council is opening all stops on enlivening the creative juices that might be flowing through the people living in the region.

With the soon to open Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) now functioning as well as major events such as the Shepparton Festival and Land of Plenty once more being re-engineered to cater for the new way we now do things.

The Council has launched a consultative program where they are seeking input from residents to help map out our creative landscape and identify opportunities for creativity in the community as part of the Creative City Strategy.

Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Cr Kim O’Keeffe, speaking at the launch said, “There’s a lot of things happening in our community and obviously, we all have different opinions and priorities and knowing these can broaden the opportunities so we are looking for input from the community.”

Former Mayor, Anne McCamish, is looking forward to Shepparton expanding its creative horizons. “We don’t have a creativity policy and until we do, we cannot have it included in city planning and won’t have any funds dedicated to it. This is just the first tiny step towards having something much bigger,” said Ms McCamish.

The first step will be to establish a steering group who will filter through the community submissions that lead towards the next stages of the strategy.

Feedback is due by Wednesday 21 April. To have your say on the Creative City Strategy for Greater Shepparton visit https://shaping.greatershepparton.com.au/ or contact Council on 5832 9700 for more information.
