STUDENTS from Benalla Rural City participated in a special art tour to the Empire exhibition by highly acclaimed international street artist, RONE in the Dandenong Ranges last week.

The tour, arranged through the Benalla Art Gallery, included 40 students and teachers travelling by bus to Burnham Beeches, an iconic Art Moderne mansion and estate located in Sherbrooke, Dandenong Ranges.

Empire is a multi-sensory experience; part exhibition, part installation, part virtual reality and augmented reality experience that combines art, vision, sound, light, botanical design and scent. It took RONE and his team a year to build the exhibition throughout the mansion, which was built in 1933 and left vacant for more than 20 years.

RONE has previously been part of the Benalla Rural City’s Wall to Wall Festival.

Benalla Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Scott Upston said these opportunities are important for students.

“Art can be transformative and for young people in particular, this kind of educational art tour demonstrates to young minds the power of imagination in art and how art can exist beyond traditional art forms,” Cr Upston said.

The Benalla Art Gallery has a schedule of public programs for children, young people and adults. Find out more by phoning 5760 2619 or visit www.benallaartgallery.com.au
