COVID-19 response commander, Jeroen Weimar was in Shepparton on Thursday to announce changes to vaccine mandates for certain critical industries.

Selected workers in aged care, healthcare, emergency services, and food processing industries were mandated to be triple vaccinated by February 12. They have now been granted an extra month to have their third vaccine dose, and they are permitted to continue working so long as they booked their vaccine appointment by Saturday.

He said the extra time to get boosted comes as many workers, particularly those in health, emergency and aged care, have not been allowed sufficient time to receive their third dose during the surge of Omicron.

“We’ve seen a significant number of staff having to furlough which means extra shift for those people working in those sectors, and probably record pressures on our healthcare system.”

“So, we recognise that a lot of staff have not yet had time to get their vaccine done or to make their booking.”

Please see GV Health’s Facebook page for testing and vaccination site updates. Vaccine appointments can be made with your GP, pharmacist, or through the online booking portal by calling 1800 675 398 (and selecting options 1-1-1) or online at https://cvms.powerappsportals.com/
