THROUGH the eyes of experience, creating a happy clientele and workforce is about getting the balance between what’s required and what’s negotiable right. With forty years experience between them, Carolynne Parkinson and Melissa McCoy are senior building designers at Bruce Mactier, and they’ve pinpointed what makes working for the company so rewarding.
Developing their careers from draftspersons to senior building designers, Melissa and Carolynne are not only proficient in drafting residential homes, but have extensive legislative and regulatory knowledge, specialised computer skills for modelling and presentation along with exemplary customer service acumen.

With opportune career development, Melissa and Carolynne also cite workplace diversity and flexibility within the office as key changes over the last twenty years.
“Our team is productive and supportive, with a range of experience within the office, we all have the opportunity to both nurture and grow our skills,” says Melissa.
Reflective, Carolynne states, “Compared to when I had my first child to now, there has been a lot of change, but now it’s more flexible and this is true for the men in the office as well.”
At Bruce Mactier, the team is strengthened by its diversity as Carolynne asserts, “I think it’s nice that we work with both males and females, we’ve got the balance right. We’ve got people with kids as well as people that don’t, but everyone is empathetic to each other’s circumstance. There’s the mutual respect between the generations.”
