LANDOWNERS and developers in Greater Shepparton are being sought out to put forward any vacant land or developments that could be adapted for social or affordable housing projects.

$80M has been allocated by the State Government to address a critical shortage of housing in regional Victoria, with recent rental market data showing housing affordability has fallen to its lowest level since data was first collected in 2000.

The State Government’s $5.3B Big Housing Build funding will focus on purchasing new homes, house and land packages and developable land for residential use to address housing affordability.

While strict guidelines on proposals are in place, including proximity to amenities and transport, there is special preference for housing in regional areas including and surrounding Greater Shepparton.

Member for Northern Victoria, Mark Gepp said, “As Victoria continues to grow, so does demand for social and affordable housing – that’s why we’re delivering more housing for Victorians in need, as well as low-and-moderate-income households, while creating thousands of jobs.”

Buying for Victoria proposals should be submitted to Homes Victoria no later than 2pm on Thursday, October 7, 2021 through tenders.vic.gov.au
