THE demand for fresh milk continues to increase both for our local market and for export. It’s not only the dairy industry that’s run off its feet with The Camel Milk Co Australia, located in Kyabram, reporting a surge in demand for its liquid gold.

This is in addition the amount of camels at their farm expected to soon surpass 700, with an estimated 200 calves to be born by the end of Spring.

Megan Williams and husband, Chris, run The Camel Milk Co Australia, which supplies the world with nutritious camel milk.

They are also about to launch a new range of high-quality skincare products.

Camel milk is low in fat and lactose and is a great alternative to those who have issues with dairy. It contains Lactoferrin and is a good source of protein, calcium, magnesium and potassium. High in protein, camel milk is gently pasteurised to maintain most of its nutritional quality with no additives or preservatives. Camel milk does not to contain the whey protein Beta Lactoglobulin (BLg). This protein can cause some intolerances to traditional dairy, the only other milk not to contain this is in fact human milk.

Megan and husband Chris first met in 2008 in Alice Springs. Not long after meeting, they worked together at Andado station where they often saw camels roaming wild. They were fascinated by the beauty of the camels and would often watch them for hours. It was during this time that Chris and Megan started to dream of starting their own camel milk dairy. A couple of years later, they moved to Victoria to a dairy farm with Megan’s parents.

“Having been brought up working on a dairy farm, and then falling in love with camels, it seemed like a perfect match for us to start up a camel milk dairy.” she said.

Megan and Chris are always looking for staff for their ever-growing farm, especially with 200 more baby camels on the way.
