Can the Plan builds up steam

In the coming weeks, preparations are being made for a convoy to descend upon Canberra to present a case to overturn the Murray Darling Basin Plan.

According to organisers, the plan as it exists is destroying regional communities, causing rising unemployment, leaving towns without schools, doctors, sporting teams and behind rising suicide rates over the region.

This social decline is a consequence of the effect in the rural economy that high water prices have in drawing away economic activity from normal business in these communities.

There is also the environmental damage that is being done due to the erratic water flow in the river systems.

The convoy will be departing from Yass in New South Wales and travel to Canberra on December 2 to establish a water embassy in front of Parliament House.
