IT’s TIME to give back to the natural environment! National Tree Day is almost upon us and Greater Shepparton City Council and River Connect would like to invite one and all to collectively get their hands dirty and enjoy a day of native tree planting.

Each year around 300,000 people across Australia volunteer on National Tree Day to plant trees and to engage the wider community in educational activities that promote a greater understanding of the natural environment. With over 26 Million trees planted across the country since 1996, the sheer volume of trees sown speaks for itself.

The benefits of participating in an event like National Tree Day are not only significant in its impact on sustaining natural habitats but can also bring a community together in shared purpose while bolstering personal wellbeing – a concept that is well understood by Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Shane Sali, who said, “This is an event that the whole family can take part in… [and] there are clear benefits to spending time in nature, by planting a tree you can help cool the climate, provide homes for native wildlife, and make your community a better place to live.”

Greater Shepparton’s free community planting day with barbeque will be held at 22 Huggard Drive, Mooroopna from 10am until 12pm on Sunday, 31 July. Participants will need to register via bit.ly/TreeDay2022.
