A STRONG desire for change was the common theme for a large group of supporters that attended independent candidate Rob Priestly’s campaign launch on Friday night.
Around 250 people attended the event at African House in Shepparton, which included musical entertainment from the St Paul’s Lutheran Church Choir, before guest speaker and former Independent MP for Indi Cathy McGowan inspired the crowd with a rousing motivational speech.
“Our launch showed that people from all walks of life are getting involved making this change,” said Mr Priestly.
“Our supporters come from completely different backgrounds, but they’re all united by their desire for achieving something better for our region.”
“People realise that we have a once in a generation opportunity to get some attention on this region in Canberra, and to lift the standard of politics to something better. It’s a moment in time for our region and the community is seizing it with both hands.”
Mr Priestly said that the show of support at the launch is consistent with what he’s hearing in the community, and was reflected in recent polls and national media coverage.
“I’m getting blown away by the support we’re getting. I knew there was a desire for change in our region but the momentum we’re getting is just incredible.”
“I’ve never seen enthusiasm about an election in this region like we have this time around. I feel like something really big is happening and it’s very exciting for our community.”
