IN an exuberant, music-loving event on Sunday, December 11, people from across the region gathered to showcase their community support and to have a thoroughly good time at EMERGE, a flood recovery concert and family entertainment event held in Fryers Street.

Presented by GOTAFE and with the support of Music Victoria, the Victorian Government, La Trobe University and University of Melbourne, 1,500 people were wowed by headlining act, The Cat Empire as well as local talents, JB & Me, Bricky B, Tenielle McKenzie and DRMGNOW, who also performed a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country.

Describing the great family friendly atmosphere of the afternoon, GOTAFE CEO Travis Heeney said, “The Cat Empire brought fun and energy to the EMERGE flood relief event, with families singing and dancing along to their set.

“It was great to see the community come out and enjoy a positive experience together before the end of the year,” Mr Heeney said.

EMERGE was a celebration of the resilience and strength of the Shepparton and Goulburn Valley communities as they continue to recover from the devastation of the recent flooding.

Along with live music, there were food trucks, hair braiding, henna tattoos, balloon animals, giant games and family activities for all to enjoy.
